Located at the mouth of the Columbia River, Astoria is the oldest American settlement west of the Rockiest with a population today of just over 10,000. with it's stunning backdrop of natural beauty and steep hills clad with beautiful Victorian homes, Astoria has often been called the "Little San Francisco of the Pacific Northwest." The Port of Astoria is considered the gateway to the Pacific Ocean and provides a wide variety of services and industrial businesses.
Fishing, lumber, agriculture, and food are the primary products of over 30 manufacturing businesses that call Astoria home. The balance of the workforce is employed in tourism and health care. Over 32% of the jobs are related to the tourism industry, while almost 14% are in health care and social assistance.
From the Clatsop Indian Tribes to Lewis & Clark and Maritime history, Astoria takes great pride in it's heritage and continually strives to preserve and present this history throughout the community's museums, festivals and special events.

A business license and ordinance compliance is required for the privilege of conducting business within city limits.
The City of Astoria requires an Occupational tax and a Transient Room Tax, if applicable. The Occupational tax includes taxes on the specific numbers of owners, officials, full and part time employees.
Room taxes start at $35.00 for the first person, $47.50 for the second person etc.
