City of Cannon Gearhart
Established in 1890, The City of Gearhart is a small, quiet community nestled just three miles north of Seaside. Considered a 'walking town', Gearhart is known for its small, intimate atmosphere and fashionable restaurants.
Golfers have been coming to Gearhart since the late 1800s, and the small community continues its reputation today as a popular golfing destination sporting the oldest golf course in the Pacific Northwest.
Gearhart has long enjoyed a symbiotic relationship with visitors, whose seasonal presence triples the population of 1,100. Like its other "beach town" counterparts, Gearhart relies mostly on tourism to feed the economy. Accommodations, food service, retail, arts, entertainment and recreation account for over 43% of the jobs in the city.
