Clatsop County is located on Oregon’s rugged and beautiful northwestern coast. The County encompasses five main cities including, Astoria, Warrenton, Gearhart, Seaside and Cannon Beach. Arch Cape, Hammond, Hamlet, Elsie and Jewell are smaller hamlets or unincorporated areas that are also included within the Clatsop borders. This area boasts many significant natural features  - The Pacific Ocean, Columbia River, Nehalem River and one of the world’s largest known monoliths, Haystack Rock, are just a few of the regions attractions.

Clatsop County plays an important role in American History. From hundreds of years of documented Clatsop , Tillamook and Chinook Indian Culture, to being the home of two popular American forts; Fort Stevens, Fort Clatsop… not to mention the resting place of over 200 major shipwrecks. Clatsop County is also most proud of its role with the Corps of Discovery. The Lewis and Clark Expedition not only ‘wintered over’ at Fort Clatsop, but they conducted documented events in most of our coastal cities.

As the County is surrounded by forest, mountains, rivers and ocean, a marine climate predominates. The summers are cool, with highs around 70 degrees while the winters are mild. Although there are few nights of freezing temperatures in the winter, enthusiastic “winter storm watchers” will not be disappointed by the awesome and breathtaking spectacles brought by mother nature.

The natural elements in this region create a stunning background for a very rewarding quality of life. The amazing environment, the area’s remarkable History, Culture and Art are among the central focuses for the tourism industry that supports over a quarter of the working population. Residents also enjoy the art galleries, museums, live theater, concerts and other special cultural events that make Clatsop Country renowned. Construction and major Manufacturing/Processing take up another quarter, while Education, Health Services and Utilities make up the balance of most employment in the area.
